North Northants is now a Sustainable Food Place

North Northants Sustainable Food Network is pleased to announce that it has been accepted as a member of the Sustainable Food Places network, which brings together pioneering food partnerships across the UK to share best practice and drive innovation on all aspects of healthy and sustainable living.

The North Northants Sustainable Food Network was formed in 2021 by Northamptonshire ACRE, a charity working with rural communities across the county and Made in Northamptonshire, a co-operative working with the county’s food and drink producers. NNSFN is now a thriving partnership of organisations, including charities, community and voluntary groups, local authority representatives, food and drink providers, producers, farmers and suppliers.

North Northants Sustainable Food Network’s mission is: “To ensure North Northamptonshire is a sustainable food place; where everyone can enjoy healthy, local, affordable food; communities can help shape their local food environment; and where together we can work towards the eradication of food poverty and insecurity”.

Elaine O’Leary, Chief Executive of Northamptonshire ACRE said “We know that food can be a big problem for many in our county but it can also play a key role in dealing with some of today’s most pressing challenges and be a valuable part of the solution. We are delighted to have become a member of Sustainable Food Places and be part of a wider group of organisations all working to transform the food culture and food systems in their area. Being a member will help to bring invaluable benefits to all residents in North Northamptonshire and enable us to achieve our stated aims sooner”.

Rachel Mallows, founder director of Made In Northamptonshire said “Having a Sustainable Food Network in North Northamptonshire really does help to build resilience for our food supply chain and move us to a greater reduction in food waste.  It is exciting to bring together business, hospitality, charities and public sector to look at needs in a holistic way and put this area on the map!”

Community organisations and businesses are invited to join the network and help drive change and tackle some of today’s biggest social, economic and environmental issues. Anyone interested in being involved in this exciting work, or would like to sign up to the Network’s regular newsletter, can find more details at the NNSFN website: https://nnsustainablefoodnetwork.co.uk/.
