Meet The Food Sharers- Wellingborough Eco Group

Meet The Food Sharers a project set up by Wellingborough Eco Group to save good food from going in the bin.

Food is surplus and rescued and diverted from the bin, and instead offered to the community. It’s not a food bank, it’s a food reuse project open to anyone who wants it, benefitting people and the planet.

Food Sharers is on at the ECO HUB at Glamis Hall between 2:00 and 6:00, with surplus food from Food Sharers, retailers, Redeem Funds and Glamis Hall. Including fresh fruit and veg, bread and other treats plus, the kettle’s on too if you fancy a coffee or tea! Your donations will also be shared with sharers!

“Food Sharers is a new sharing community, it will evolve into a community fridge and food reuse café and it will include a food buying club for people to buy food in bulk from wholesalers. Wellingborough Eco Group and ‘Food Sharers’ are not, nor will ever be a food bank. Food Sharers is simply a food reuse project open to everyone.”

Wellingborough Eco Group have also taken on a plot at Ladywell allotments in Wellingborough, to give people the chance to share skills and to grow plants. The site has been cleared and is ready to be developed into a user-friendly space to grow fruit, vegetables and other plants to benefit the community.

A friendly and positive group, Wellingborough Eco Group showcase what communities can achieve environmentally. The group is open to everyone and aims to work with local councillors, businesses, and community organisations. They host various activities including Repair Cafes, Green Drinks, Swap Shops, Wellie Wombles, community allotments and monthly ‘two hour tidy ups’.
