Meet Food for Thought, a refill shop in Wellingborough

Meet Food for Thought, a refill shop in Wellingborough, where you bring your containers, fill up with groceries (food, self-care & cleaning products) and get the amount you need, cutting needless plastic packaging!

The owner of Food for Thought Kerry explains “I had really bad post natal depression after I had our daughter and one of the symptoms was my complete obsession with the state of the planet. Everything felt so helpless. I was always being ribbed by people for taking things home to recycle and one day I came out with “you see, I’ll open a zero waste shop” so I did!”

It’s a welcoming and friendly space in Nene Court Wellingborough (strut.morale.dime on what3words) stocking over 600 food & drink, cleaning, personal hygiene and home products, making it easy to take small steps in reducing your plastic consumption.

If you haven’t been to a refill shop before, simply bring along some containers (it doesn’t need to be fancy an old ice cream tub will do!), they weigh it, then you fill & they weigh it again to work out what it costs. You don’t have to know what you’re doing, Kerry & Alice are only too happy to help.

Food for Thought was opened in 2020 with the motto “more joy, less waste” & celebrates its 2nd birthday 7th December. It’s not been the easiest of times but already Food for Thought is an award-winning business. It won the Muddy Stilettos 2022 for Sustainable Business & Kerry was Finalist for Business person of the year Northamptonshire Business Awards 2022

With Christmas on the way you can buy a pre-made Christmas hampers or can make your own! To celebrate the festive period & their 2nd birthday, Food for Thought launches its 12 days of Christmas with 12% off a new product each of the 12 days (Tuesday-Saturday).

They offer late-night opening first Thursday a month (11am-7pm) and even have click-and-collect & delivery services.

But it’s not just about reducing packaging and cutting waste, Food for Thought is creating a community by hosting a series of workshops. This year they have hosted clothes and toy swaps, and workshops including ‘zero waste for triers’ and ‘use your period to take over the world’.

Coming up Saturday 7th January they have ‘A Meat Eaters Guide to Veganuary’, a non-judgmental view of how to reduce animal products and why we need to from a sustainability viewpoint.
